I am proud to be a governor of Morecambe Bay Community Primary School and delighted to chair the governing body. The job of governors is to provide strategic leadership and robust accountability for educational and financial performance. We are required to have oversight of how well children achieve and to make sure money is spent effectively in enabling all to do as well as they can. We aim to do this in the most supportive way possible.
We meet as a full governing body at least once each term and in addition have a number of committees to address different aspects of the school’s work. Together with staff, we have a responsibility to ensure children are safe. We have high expectations for all children. We want them to have a happy, fulfilling and productive education. Our aim is to prepare them for the world of now and to make them resilient and well prepared for an unknown future. We hope they become proud members of their school community, find joy in learning and are able to get along with others. The governing body has a responsibility to engage with parents and carers in a meaningful way.
We are keen to listen to your views. We want to create a sense of shared ownership with you and to respond positively and sensitively to your views in the interests of the child. More information about governors and who we are can be found on the school website. From time to time, there will be an opportunity for parents and carers and others to be involved as members of the governing body. Governors are members of the public who volunteer to take on the role and are not paid for it. We try to recruit governors who have appropriate skills and experiences, for example in finance, but essentially we are a lay body and not educational experts. Nevertheless, we are all committed to working together to make Morecambe Bay an outstanding school where all children can flourish.
